Learn how to make a setting for a baguette cut gemstone

12 and 13 July

Have you had your eye on a baguette cut stone but didn’t know how to make a setting for it? Then this course will show you one option for making a setting out of a single piece of wire, how to work out the size of that wire, how to mark it out and how to sit the stone in it for setting. You will then make either a ring or a pendant. Afterwards, you will set the stone using a punch to create a finished piece of wearable jewellery.

Some experience necessary.

Please email me if you have questions, as this course isn't on the JASSO website yet.

Learn two ways to set square stones

BISHOPSLAND

SUMMER SCHOOL FOR MAKERS

27-29 August

Hills Yard
Buscot
Nr Faringdon
SN7 8BY

You will be square setting: learning how to use rectangular wire to fabricate a square the correct size for a square faceted stone; and how to use files and burrs to create a seat for the stone, resulting in a finished mount for a square stone. Class size is limited to six to allow for plenty of personalised help during the three days.

Then you will go onto square setting using square tube: learning how to use square tube to create a bezel mount for a square stone and how to finesse it so the stone sits correctly for setting.

Pulling all these mount settings together, you will learn how to set the stone in both settings using a hammer and punch.  This includes learning about how to hold the stone for setting with either thermolock, setters cement or polymorph.
